P Mae Garza referred me to an incompetent lawyer, Courtney Hilliard at Hilliard Legal PLLC after she gave me indications she would take my case. I had learned of the referral from her admin when I did not receive her fee schedule or retainer agreement. Additional details: I was referred by an acquaintance to Mae Garza for a time sensitive emergency order/modification request regarding my minor son in mid July. Mae gave me 30 minute consult. In the course of the call and details shared she confirmed the case had many layers. She was shocked by the number of various challenges faced in this case since initial divorce filing in 2013. Before hanging up the phone on that Friday she said she would send over a contract and fee schedule. When I did not hear from her office by noon the following Monday, her admin advised she was referring my case out to a lawyer in the building. I asked many questions: why….. how do we we know this lawyer knows what he is doing…… this is know ordinary case….. etc. Admin was unhelpful with exception in passing along the number. I was in a time crunch and blindly trusted the referral which resulted in a loss of $4700 in retainer to Mr. Hilliard with absolutely nothing accomplished in the case because of Mr. Hilliard’s incompetence. P. Mae Garza blindly referred me for a time sensitive emergency order/modification which she more than likely received a referral cut on (which is still unresolved). My family and I are very grateful to Mrs. Garza and her ENTIRE staff for the way they handled our custody case over the past (almost) 2 years. After losing our only daughter, Mrs. Garza helped us with remaining in our grandchildren’s lives, in a VERY difficult and emotional case.
