Reviewing an Attorney’s Law License
Before you hire an attorney, it’s important to look into their background, qualifications, disciplinary history, and license status.
Check Your Attorney’s Law License
Hiring a lawyer is a very important and serious decision, which is why it is essential to make sure you are hiring a lawyer with the proper qualifications. Especially in this day and age with deepfake online profiles, checking that the attorney you are considering is licensed to practice law in your state can provide you peace of mind and help ensure that they have the necessary experience, knowledge and skills to address your legal needs. Checking their law license also provides assurance that the attorney has not had their professional credentials revoked for any reason, and most importantly ensures that you will receive accurate advice and representation. Taking the few minutes required to check an attorney’s law license can potentially save time, money and stress in the long run.
Of course, some of the bigger firms in the US have hundreds and hundreds of attorneys on staff, so if you’re considering hiring a large law firm looking up the individual licenses of each attorney individually is not necessarily practicable. At the time of this writing, for instance, Morgan & Morgan has over 900 attorneys (read our Morgan & Morgan review here), and Alexander Shunnarah Injury Attorneys has over 500 personal injury lawyers on staff (Alexander Shunnarah review here). In this case, we recommend looking up the license and disciplinary history of the specific attorney assigned to your case, as well as their manager or the practice area advisor. Researching reviews for the law firm as a whole, as well as for the individual lawyer you’ll be working with, can also be a great idea.
