Mr. Elder was exceptional! I set up a consultation with his office in the morning and he was able to meet with me that same evening. After our consultation, he worked on my custody case immediately. Mr. Elder remained in communication with me and always contacted me with updated information. Mr. Elder was very honest with me and never over promised. Yet, did everything he said he would do, while being very understanding and compassionate about my case. I highly recommend Mr. Elder.
I have the privilege to work with LaMarre and by far the best I know. He has helped me with my custody case and my child support case and both have come out successful. I am very happy with the results. I’m enjoying my son more then ever. With good communication, he was able to come to agreements and more. He tells me things straight to the point and what are the possibilities on things. Thank you very much. 👍🏼💪🏼
If you are looking for a patient, professional, and proactive lawyer, unfortunately, Mr. Elder may not be for you. As a Black woman and HBCU grad, I was excited when I found Mr. Elder, a Black man and fellow HBCU grad. I carefully poured over Mr. Elder’s reviews, spoke with another attorney who had previously worked with him, and set up a 1 hour consultation with him to discuss my case and get his opinion. After completing what I thought was adequate due diligence, I felt comfortable moving forward with retaining Mr. Elder for a relocation and child custody case. During this very difficult circumstance I found myself in with the father of my child, I was hoping that through establishing a relationship with an attorney, I would find empathy and patience, along with professional expertise; instead, I often times felt that my case and occasional questions I posed to Mr. Elder were a mere inconvenience for him. I would often times reach out Mr. Elder via text, his primary and preferred method of communication, with questions and/or requests for updates regarding my case (he does not provide proactive updates/communication on cases – he claimed “lawyers don’t operate like that”), and not receive responses for days. Mr. Elder would then respond to questions with “Didn’t we talk about this already?” and while I’ll admit, perhaps we had, I am not a lawyer and as you know, these situations can be ambiguous and confusing for us, non-lawyers. We never met in person nor virtually regarding my case, aside from the consultation, until the morning of my hearing. During the hearing, I found out Mr. Elder “served” my child’s father with the intent to relocate via email, which the judge did not agree was adequate, the Friday before our Tuesday court date, which she also agreed was not adequate timing. The final straw for me: after not speaking to Mr. Elder the entire month after our initial hearing being rescheduled, he finally reached out requesting my responses to the opposing counsel’s discovery and request for information – which he had never sent me. Full transparency: I unfortunately withheld paying Mr. Elder on time – I could have paid the entire retainer up front but thank God I did not – after the first few payments because I felt as though the only time he was responsive was when it was time to receive the monthly payment. Ultimately, a month before our next hearing, I fired Mr. Elder and retained another lawyer. I had already paid Mr. Elder at least $3k of the total $5k he charged to take my case, so this was the last thing I wanted to do. I have no doubt that Mr. Elder is a competent family lawyer; however, if you are someone who desires/expects empathy, patience, professionalism, consistent, proactive communication, etc. (behind $5,000 – these things should be table stakes), Mr. Elder unfortunately may not be for you.
