Mr. Smith did nothing noteworthy to improve the outcome my case. In the three months between the time I retained him and my court date, he did not contact me once. I didn’t even recognize him in the courtroom because he’d just gotten back from a vacation and he was extraordinarily tanned. The judge hearing my case knew two things about me: I had no priors, and I had a job. That’s all Mr. Smith felt the need to say.
